too much heat from the exhaust?

hey when i start my bike up.. i rev it up a lil... and i try to cover the exhaust a lil with my hand(obviously leave a gap) but its very hot? why? and the exhaust gets really hot quick.. any ideas?

a turn of a screw on our carb

Theres a gold screw on the bottom of your carb next to the float bowl give that half a turn in i think :confused:

When i first got my bike the exhaust would glow red after 5 mins of idling..

Its calmed down considerably now tho

if your adjusting the mixture screw just remember how many times you've turned it incase you need to reset it and only try turning it a quarter at a time

ahh i see cheers guys... so if its getting too hot.. which way do i need to turn the screw inwards or outwards if its too lean?

the exhaust gets very hot.. and when i throttle it in 2nd the engine dosnt catch up untill i realease and go again... so what needs doing to the mixture screw? so when the carbs on the bike which way do i need to turn the screw to make the engine run better?
