Review for crf50 rep
By jenny Kingman
This is overall a good little bike for the money and lots of fun.
The bike cost £250 new and is manufactured by orion and has a 110cc ducar engine and manual clutch.
For a small bike it was quite a bit of power but bottoming out on a bike so small and low to the ground is a bit scary and at times hard to handle, but that just added to the thrill of the bike.
The bike isn?t very adult proof, but as I don?t weigh to much it didn?t really effect me, but if you weighed 10+ stone I would recommend reinforcing the frame and swing arm as they aren?t really designed to hold the weight of an adult rider.
The bike has folding foot pegs which are a real pain and kept folding up when I was riding and my feet kept slipping off the pegs as they are designed for small feet, even though my feet are only a 5.5 and I didn?t have big mx boots on I still had problems with the foot pegs. But if you wanted to get larger pegs they don?t fit on to the peg mount so you have to buy a whole new peg mount and pegs.
The rear shock is standard but again it is not designed to hold adult weight so an upgrade would be recommended for adult riders.
I found the suspension quite soft and very bouncy at times.
The handle bars are very low but unfortunately standard bar raisers do not fit on the triple t?s and if you wanted to sort it out you?d have to buy some genuine stock crf50 forks and clamps, which could be quite costly.
The stock tyres are terrible for off roading as they have about a milimetre of grip causing you to slide all over the place, I have fallen off this bike a few times due to the tyres not gripping and the back end sliding out.
The brakes are drum brakes which are ok but would be better and more responsive if they where disc brakes.
The exhaust sounds like a can of baked beans but has a good heat shield to protect you from burning your legs or in my case melting my trousers.
The engine seems bullet proof and can take a real pounding and never fails to start, however the gearing is incredibly short and could do with a different sprocket setup to improve maybe 17t front 37t rear.
These bikes are a lot of fun but with out new decent tyres and some modding these bikes aren?t very good for teens and adults wanting to do hard off road riding.
They can handle a lot and not one part has broken on my bike yet even after some hard riding at times. They are great bikes for the money, I highly recommend if you have a small budget and want a pit bike.
