Screw Problem :S

my little brother got his hands on a screw driver and started screwing in a screw into the petrol tank to hold the plastic in place but he cross-threded it and its stuck :(

its now just spinning in the nut type thing in the petrol tank. anyone got any specail way or tool or idea how the get this annoying screw out, or do i have to think about replacing the petrol tank :(

I can't open the photo's you attached so I will assume the plastics are in place and the screw is holding the plastic on, but cross threaded?

You could try long nosed pliers or molegrips and try turning the screwhead anti-clockwise, pulling at the same time.

You could try drilling it out, remember not to drill through all the way, (not a complete disaster if you do drill through, the screw will still act as a plug, you could also use a small 'o ring' or plumbers PTFE tape to act as a seal) if the screw spins when drilling, try superglue to fasten it.

Both of the above will mean you will have no useable thread left so you will have to use a thread insert to comlete the repair.

Another way could be to drill out the screw or just cut it flush with the tank and fibreglass a bighead fastener to the tank, that way you will have a threaded stud sticking out from the tank, hold the plastics on with a nutlock instead of a screw.

None of the above options are easy, there is no easy fix I'm afraid.

You could just drill or cut the head of the screw off, and just rely on the other screw/nut at the front of the plastic to hold the plastic in place.

Remember to flush out the tank before re-fitting.

Personally I would search ebay for a replacement tank.

No error message, when I click on the attachment it does appear, but it is completely jumbled up and not legible as a picture at all.
