Hi All,

Thought I'd introduce myself and ask for lots of advice all it one hit!

I've been racing a Gsxr 600 for the last few years and have now decided to call it a day due to soaring costs and injuries :(

So here goes..... thought I might take a step into the world of Pit Bikes.

I'm on the lookout for my first bike, and I have to admit I know nothing about them whatsoever!!!!

Ok, so some of you seem to have 110's some 125's - is it a power thing, or like road racing keep the weight down and hp isnt quite so important? Some seem to be air cooled, others air/oil?

I will using the bike 99% on tarmac so suitable tyres would be required for this. You guys seem to insist on 10" rims for supermoto use, so I guess this is an essential criteria for me.

BUDGET...... ah the dreaded budget. This will probably make you all cringe, but only looking to spend about £350 on my first bike to see if i like the crack, them spend a bit more in the future as necessary. I've looked at a hell of alot of bikes on ebay and the chinese seem to have flooded the market with pretty cheap bikes. Now realistically, are ANY of them worth the money - is one of the makes any better than the other? Or are good used examples of the better know brands a safer bet? (xsport, thumpstar etc)

Outright top speed is not a particularly important criteria for me as I have done that for years on the gixer, but a respectable turn of speed, good handling and wheelie fun is what i'm after. I might be tempted back onto the race scene later if I enjoy it enough!

So, thats about it...... Look forward to hearing from any of you guys and girls that are into your pitbikes and can offer any tips/advice to this newbie.

And if any of you have a good quality bike for upto £350 then I'd like to hear from you..... send me some info and pics to thatsnokitten@hotmail.com and I'll be in touch.

Thanks again, and look forward to picking your brains again real soon....

Good Riding

Right if your using it for tarmac (racing) for £350 you wont stand a chance, to be honest i would try and blag a ride to see if you like it then buy a decent one as you will only regret it for £350 but the best tyres are savas (dry-race compound-soft).

also i would suggest coming along to a meeting or practice day to see the bikes aswell

lewis is right mate, £350 won't buy you alot, someone will say buy a rampage but i would'nt. Get yourself down to your local track where they ride pit bikes and chat with some of the guys and maybe blag a couple of laps, my bikes always being lent out!!!!!! monster moto were doin a bit of a track day where you could borrow bikes but i'm not sure if that's passed yet?

you can pick up xsports second hand for around 400-450 on ebay, you'd be best off with summit like that as you can get parts delivered the following day.

110,120,125 there's not alot of difference but it's one of them, if you could have an R6 or an R1 you'd get the R1

the way forward on the mini bike scene is honda crf50 but you'll end up spendin loads $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Thanks for the advice chaps....... Looks like "you get what you pay for" in the PitBike world as well then.

I'll blag myself a test ride where I can, and if all ok heading down the thumpstar/xsport route on your recommendations.

All the best

Stubbsy. :)

Hi again Lewis....

Great - if you could give me some info on local clubs/tracks that would be excellent.

I live in somerset and I've seen that they do a pitbike night at my local go-cart track (cheddar) but thats about all I know about.

Thanks

Stubbsy.

x-sport or thumpstar second hand dude, reliable means run, unreliable mean work, race meeting mean information, guessing mean ''i dunno'', finding the best prices mean saving money, finding a dogy dealer **cough poweroffroad cough** mena waiting 3/4 a year

lots of love
