No mate lol not every month and its 10-40W semi synthetic you need i'd say about every 3-4 months

Change it after 1 hour (ish) Then change again after 3 hours or so (Just to get any metal bits out that were loose when it were made)
Then after 2 or 3 rides change it again.
Then leave it like Jake said 3-4Months (Remembering to top it up when needed) depending on how clean it is and how hard and often you ride.
10-W40 Or is it 10W-40 ? Anyway you know what i mean Semi synthetic ;)
Hope this helps.

ok but people are saying its to lean not to rich whats the right one?
oldboyonrgv
11-12-2007, 03:49 PM
That sounds lean to me! its Ok for the pipe tro blue up where it enters the cylinder head (thats a good indicator that its running about right), glowing red usually indicates lean mixture, be carefull you might burn the exhaust valve out.

tbh whats with all these ppl that like to have flames popping out of there exhaust or glowing exhausts, sure it may look kol but how long would it be kol for when your engine is fuked. why not pour fuel down the exhaust that will make it flame, u might aswell :icon_lol:
Happy days:banana:

the whole pipe isnt glowing red and there arent flames flying out it, it is just red on the inside of the exhaust when moving.

been to homebase today and had a quick look at different oils. They have they're own make which is 10-40W (or wherever the W goes) and semi synthetic. I take it that its okay to use this? It doesn't matter if it doesn't say wether its for bikes or not does it?
only i'm getting my bike soon and need to know which oil is best and that I have the right one ready for when I get it.
Also, if a bottle doesn't say whether its semi synthetic or not what should I assume it is? Or would it generally always say on the back somewhere?
Cheers
EDIT: just read another thread about oil changing and one guy said:
"HI
Ive used castrol gp since my first oil change and agree with everything said about oil changes so far, very good point about not screwing your dipstick back in to check your oil level, as most people assume it needs to be screwed back to check levels- hence a low oil level.
But my point being ..... on my last oil change i had run out of castrol gp t4 and wanted to go riding, so after a good search in one of my sheds i found a big can of my old jet ski engine oil....... Silkolene pro4 fully synthetic 10w 50, after a good search on the net i confiremed it was suitable for wet clutches and filled her up..............WOW its like having a new gearbox fitted ! my gear changes are so smoother now and the engine runs a bit cooler after a half hour thrash :D
Theres nothign wrong atall with castrols oil, but the silkolene is deffinately a better oil in my humble opinion.
Cheers
Alex"
So hes saying 10W 50 and fully synthetic.
So what is it? 10W 50 or 10W 40? and semi or fully?
And does it need to be specific bike oil or can it be any engine oil?
Cheers again!

Just get 10-W40 To be safe. The numbers are all to do with the Thickness of the oil.
All people say use 10-W40 so just do it.
been to homebase today and had a quick look at different oils
Didnt know homebase sold Oils ? :icon_lol:
And makesure it says Motorcycle oil on it i dont know wether it matters but again just to be safe.
And just use Semi aswell as everyone well most on here use that and it seems the best to use ;)
Just stick to the most commen oil (10-W40 Semi for 4 Stroke Motorcycles)

Ok mate thanks for your help. Any particular (cheapest) make? I take it I should be out looking for Castrol GP then?
Can I get opinions from other people wether its possible to use the brands which don't say anything about motorcycles? And where you can get the cheapest ones etc. Because homebase didn't have any that said anything to do with motorbikes but I did see 10W-40 Semi synthetic.
Cheers people, and sorry for asking questions that you experienced lot have answered a lot of times!

if you want a cheap oil(well i say cheap there is about 2 quid difference) but the halfords BIKE oil 10w 40 semi sythetic its made by esso, comma so its a good oil.

I say its better to buy cheaper oil and change it more frequently than expensive stuff and run it for too long in the engine.
All oils get contaminated due to riding conditions regardless of how much you spent on it.....so keep it cheap and frequent!

So what cheap oil do you use and wheres it from? Is it specifically for motorcycles? Cause I've looked in wilkinsons, homebase and a shop near me called motor world and neither of them had oil specifically for bikes.

Thanks a lot for all your help.
