Yes change oil first ... to a good quality oil..... If still slipping then check that clutch lever is releasing the clutch arm ( the one on the casing) as the first sign of worn plates is slipping in 4th.. then 3rd.. 2nd and lastly 1st.
If clutch lever does not have any slack (free play) then it may be holding clutch plates apart... this will cause the plates to slip !!
Try adjusting up on the handle bars first ( called the perch) ... If that does not cure the problem then slacken "perch adjuster" and adjust cable at casing end.
Be warned ... don't do this if engine hot as exhaust pipe is close and burns.
Try only smal adjustments to casing end of cable... then fine adjustments on "perch" adjuster.
Make sure you maintain freeplay at clutch lever
Hope this helps

Hi Alex,
Well it looks as if you have worn friction plates..... That is the only other reason for clutch slip. You need to replace the plates mate

Right you say you have an xplorer 110...............
I have the same engine, and my clutch was a nightmare to sort out as i couldNT get the clutch to work when i had 2-3 mm of free play at the clutch lever
So i bought heavy duty clutch springs, this helped the lever 'feel' more like it should do but i still couldnt get the clutch to work/bite hard with the correct play at the clutch lever.
I found that to get my clutch to bite correctly and get rid of clutch slip i had to run my clutch lever and cable so there was a little tension in the cable, the complete oposite to the 'correct' way of doing it. :banghead:
Prior to this i had the clutch out of the engine when fitting new springs and the clutch assembly looked 100%...........so it is very odd.
now after having the bike running like that for 8 months or so, which worked fine under a bit of tension........now im able to run the bike correctly with a little play at the lever...........my only thought could be that as there not genuine Honda clutch plates they could have been slightly too thick/thin hence why the correct adjustment wont work.
Hope this helps get to the bottom of your problem, try adjusting the clutch lever with the adjuster on the perch so when the lever is fully out the clutch doesnt slip...by that i mean try keepeing the cable under a little amount of tension so you 'set' where the clutch bites...it'll be trail and error, adjust a little bit ride it, still slips?...adjust a little more another ride, still slips...adjust again until hopefully your clutch will find the point at which its happy to 'bite' properly.......thats how i did mine and worked fine.
