View Full Version : [how to] set the pickups to retarded position and back to factroy.

1)remove the pickup cover which is usaly on the side of the sprocket.

2)then you will see the ignition system inside

3)undo the 2 screws what the screwdriver in the pic is in...and SLIDE FULLY LEFT IF YOU WANT IT IN THE RETARED POSSITION or if you want it back to factory setting when it is semi run in put the pickup in the MIDDLE.

4)once you have the desired possition use a feeler gauge of 0.5mm(as seen in pic below) to set the clearence from the pickup to the magnet and TIGHTEN the screws fully.

5)run the engine with the cover off just to check it is all working as it should as if it doesent you can easly access it.

6)put all 3 bolts back in the same holes as they come out of as they are various sizes and your ready to roll:thumbs:

thankyou, but i was trying to do it in 1 post but it kept mucking up.

as i said (or didnt) I was lazy to take pics lol, but I maybe cleaning out the brake calipers on the weekend so I may redo with proper pics.

... not done this yet but my bikes running okay so is it necessary?
Also after half running it in and sliding pickup to the middle... where do you put it after full run in?

what have you not done yet?
and half way through run in you center the pickup and if its running well central just leave it if its not fiddle with it bit.

its just thin peices of metal which are differnet thicknesses:thumbs:

you want the 0.5mm feeler gauge and lowe the pickup on to it then tigten...



have you ajusted your tappets yet a you say uve never used a feeler gauge before?

no. wouldn't have a clue how to. Is it really neccessary? Cause the bike seems fine...

one of the downside to chinise engines is that when they come out of the factory they dont ajust the tappest properly....i ujusted mine the other day and the outlet was fully closed!


if i was you i would take alook.


there is a visio on how to do the tapests on here somewhere.

if i was you i would take alook.

The exhaust is tricky to check anyway, you gotta make sure its off the cam as it can appear tight and not be.

it was verrt tight.

and we checked because we waited till it peaked.

theres only a small ammount of info on here that i could find... i found out that the tappet cover is next to where the exhaust goes in to the engine. And theres nothing on ooracing....

Charlie the tapet covers are at the top and bottom of the engine;

They have bolts not nuts on the covers to help, PM me if you need any help mate. I can piccys for ya.
