Your best bet would be to ring a yamaha dealer and ask them.

Ok, thanks mate  i think its over due a piston kit, because its not got much compression, so im going to see how much it would cost for my local shop to do it, if its too much ill just buy the bits and do it myself

Yea, its a 1998 :(

But its not too bad, because all yz's from 98-05 are partly the same, when Yamaha got to 2005, they completely scraped the old engine design and re-made a complete new engine for 2006+

And i have a shop about 100metres from my house that are Yamaha specialists, and they gave us a parts catalogue for my bike, and it has EVERYTHING on the entire bike, so we can just order it from them which is a good thing :D

Thanks.. Im having a slight problem.. The only code i can find on the frame is CE01C004304... Which isnt long enough for a VIN Code... Where would you look to find a 17 Digit one.. The code I have is printed on the front of the frame where the forks are connected to..

HELP!!!!!

i was allways told the last 2 numbers in the code were what year the bike is.
meaning yours would be 04. mines right, stamped on the frame engine and swinger. everyone have a check and see if im right.
