would somebody have a look at the free sag/ rider sag section. i think its wrong. If your sag is not enough you need a softer spring, and if too much a harder spring. not too much sag add a softer spring, or too little sag and add a harder spring like the article says.

there is that and the fact that it says you need a softer/stiffer spring depending on the static sag...
when you should be adjusting the prload depending on the static sag, and changing springs dependimng on the rider sag.

so, if when you measure the static sag (free sag) and you measure less than 20mm then the rear preload is to high. and you need to loosen it off.
or you measure more than 35mm, then the preload is too high, and you need to tighten it up.

once you've done the static sag, then you measure the rider sag, and if it is-
less than 100mm, a softer spring is needed
more than105mm, a harder spring is needed

but then how many pitbike owners do you know changing their spring rates? can you even buy springs to suit your weight?

thinking about it 20-35mm static sag? that's a lot of room for error.
the manufacturer should say what it should be, so for a ktm sx125-250 (2007) the static sag is 35mm, adjusting your preload till you get it bang on. then check your rider sag and if it's within 95-105mm your spring rate is correct.
that's what's in my manual anyways.

btw this is still a good find, especially if it gives some people who didn't know, the basics on suspension setup.:thumbs:
