Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
Hey guys, having some trouble with our demon DYX140. It takes a lot of kicks to start it up (definately kicking it properly, as described in the tutorial section) and when it does it will fire up and then die straight away.
We have checked the carb and it is set up fine and clean inside. Idling speed and the mixture screw don't seem to affect the problem... I just checked the spark coming from the demon and it is much much weaker than that coming from the stomp 110FX (the stomp starts first kick). I tried changing the spark plugs round and still the same - strong spark on the stomp, very weak spark on the demon. I then tried changing the ignition coils over and still the same... So now i'm looking at trying to fit the stomp's CDI box onto the demon to see if that fixes the problem, but the wiring seems to be different between the two bikes and it is confusing me... Could anyone please tell me whether it is possible to swap the CDI over and how i should wire it on the demon? Sorry for the massive pictures. Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
You can't change them around because the Demon is a 140cc with an INNER ROTOR KIT and has a different cdi.
Check the timing position and the earch wire (Green) is good on the CDI unit. |

thanks for the reply,
I thought my demon didn't have an inner rotor kit... how can I check if it does?! Also i've no idea what you mean by timing position... sorry :banghead: any chance you could explain to a simpleton? lol |
Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
That the cdi of an IRK for sure
Checkout the posts on The Stomps IRK http://welshpitbikes.19.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=58 Ignition pick up needs to be set mid way. |
Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
thanks mate, that's made everything a lot clearer for me. I understand what all the wires are for and everything now.
So i've taken the 'flywheel' cover off and like you said there's an inner rotor kit in there, can't believe i never knew the bike had one!!!! Sorry if im being dense but I don't get what you mean about the timing part... in that thread you say: 'Ok now you need to ensure the timing is correct by checking the pick up see's the magnet on the IRK flywheel at approx 10 to 15 degrees before top dead centre.' where is the magnet, and how do i tell when the pick up sees it? and how do you adjust it? thanks again |

Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
to avoid this problem demons now have had inner rotor kits removed they are a optional extra for thoose who can handle installing them
also as a extra tip just recieved advice from tim all IRK's both stomps and demons should be changed every 10 hours of use |
