Electric start engine haters

Why do almost all the people I correspond with hold electric start pitbike engines with contempt.
Is there some regular failings off the type off engine?

Re: Electric start engine haters

its cos usually they come with a CRAP battery, and substandard wiring (reg/rec stator etc) - so the thing holds charge for a few days and dies.

Cos most of us only use our bikes once in a while, or even every few weeks, its long discharged and so just seems like a load of extra weight with no benefit.

Re: Electric start engine haters

I always been lead to believe there was something inherently weak in them.
I really asked as I worked on my first electric start recently and apart from the shaft length thing look the same.

Re: Electric start engine haters

They're great until the chain fails and wraps around your flywheel.

I've never been fond of them. That side of the engine just looks ugly. The inverted flywheel setup means you cant fit anything like an Outer rotor kit and keep the leccy start.
Not only that, as Dangle says, the batterys dont last 2 minutes.
