Corsa C Common Problems
Does anyone know what the common sort of issues you get with a 2001 Corsa C? as im looking at buying one, and its got 103,000 miles, and i was wondering what sort of things could start to play up once ive bought it, and what things i should look out for when i go to pick it up, before i pay...
Its a 2001 Corsa C SXI 1.2 if that helps. Im downgrading from a 1.8 to a smaller car because i cant cope with the running costs of my current car.

Re: Corsa C Common Problems
i wouldnt touch a petrol car on over 100k unless you know it has a decent service history. your just asking for trouble unless you buy vag at that mileage.

Re: Corsa C Common Problems
Take it for a test ride, check for the steering going off to the left/right, check the cornering is all smooth in it, listen out for noises, so try not to make too much convosation for a little bit when driving, check brake lines are all decent and not too corroded etcetc, check the hand brake is all alright.
And service, all work done on it etcetc, make sure its had a cambelt! Most cars are reccomended 80kmiles or 4 years so check all that out mate.
good luck!

First of all, don't listen to Law. Anyone who tells you to take a car for a test ride shouldn't be listened to. Second of all, its a corsa.
I would personally stay away from any petrol car over 100k. You can get a lot better for a lot better money. My first car was a 1.1 Peugeot 106, bought for £600 on 67k miles. Just make sure that you will actually be saving money by changing cars, the selling, buying and paying for changes might make it more expensive.
Try looking at diesels. They tend to be bulletproof so miles don't matter too much.

Re: Corsa C Common Problems
I wouldn't listen to anyone in this thread
the 1.2 is pretty bomb proof engine even over 100k, obviously less miles are more desirable.
Cam chain tensioner runs out of adjustment and will tick bad, was a revised tensioner from vauxhall but don't know if its still available and a ball ache to change, the ticking isn't a problem just annoying.
Oil pressure switch can go on them will either weep slightly or go suddenly and squirt oil everywhere about a £7 fix and a 2 minute job.
Gear linkage is another week part, about £60 in parts from vauxhall.
Parts are pretty cheap and are very easy cars to work on.
They are nice cars to drive and much better than any french **** for the same money/age.

Your not going to find faults within the gearbox just by staring at it

You recommend a 106 over a corsa?
