how do i measure my chain ? (want to get a new one)

hello, ive changed my rear sproket on my xplorer pit bike from a 32t to a 37t on the rear.

but now the chain is too small

is there a way to measuer the chain? i have tryd with a tape but failed
the chain is only 1 or 2 links short.

is there a way to tell how long the chain needs to be from the sprokets on the bike? 14t on the front and 37t on the rear also the chain i need is 428 or 428H

thanks for ur help people might be able to ride the thing soon

When you buy a new chain it usually come with more links than you need, you just shorten it then.

Are you sure it's a 428? More than likely it's a 420 on that.

If its a shineray road legal then it will be a 428, usualy 420 though on most bikes but they like to be awkward

50 links sounds small to me, I think mine was 114 links and in 428 pitch and I have around 10 links left

Re: how do i measure my chain ? (want to get a new one)

im not sure if its a shineray road legal, I counted the outer links and the total added up to 44 links ;/ DOES THAT SOUND TOO SMALL ? I also look at the chain and and it sez it 428 H on the link but it a different colour so its not the proper split link for it. i think ill take the chain with me wen i go to buy a new one.

thanks for the help everyone

Well is it a road legal or not lol? haha, my road legal Shineray 50cc came with 47 outer links standard;

I thinks dan_250 is talking about pins or maybe inner and outer links yeah

Hey guys a question to ask, do you know what size chain I need for my ducar Orion 125cc please. I have no idea how to measure my old chain and there are no markings telling me if it's a 420 etc. I don't know what the numbers mean.
