Carb Settings

Right since this thread is needed ill start it off, everyone who knows the baseline settings for their carb & engine just post in this thread. Eventually itll build up into a nice database.

Do a plug chop between each adjustment, ride the bike through the gears at full throttle, pull the clutch in & kill the engine then roll to a stop, take the plug out. If its white you need a bigger main, if its black & wet you need a smaller main. You're looking for a nice coffee colour. (however dark isnt too bad - running slightly rich is better than running lean)

** Genuine Mikuni 24mm **

- CRF50 with 88 kit, head ported & polished - 4J13 needle, 120 main, stock pilot, needle clip 2nd from top, mixture 1 turn out.

** Molkt 26/28mm **

- YX140 with Z40 - Straight out the box, 2nd clip from the bottom, mixture 1 & half turns out.

** OKO/KOSO 28mm **

- YX125 - 95 main & 35 pilot, JFN needle on middle clip

** OKO/KOSO 30mm **

- YX140 with Z40 - 110 main & 42 pilot, needle 2nd from bottom, mixture 1 & 1/4 turns out.

- YX184 - JFJ needle, 110 main & 40 pilot, needle middle clip & mixture 1 turn out.

** Genuine Keihin PE 28mm (4stroke) **

- Z155 - 115 main, 38 pilot, needle clip 2nd from top & mixture 1 & 3/4 turns out

- 150 - 200cc / tuned up smaller engines - 115 to 130 mains & 38 to 42 pilots.

** Genuine Mikuni VM26 **

- YX140 - 0-0 needle jet, 135 main & 30 pilot, needle clip 2nd from bottom

- YX140 - 0-0 needle jet, 4J13 needle, 150 main & 27.5 pilot, needle clip in middle

Re: Carb Settings

Check valve clearances before messing with the carburettor too much because doesn't matter what setting the carburettor is on if the valve clearance isn't correct in the first place

Re: Carb Settings

A sooty plug us running to rich. . Assuming you have the right jets then wind in the mixture screw half a turn and test it. You will probably need to reset the idle once you have got it sorted
