2008 CR(F) 280 AF Project!

hey guys, not been on in a while.... since the KLX project, ive been chipping away & redoing my CR250, but now its time to build another bike!

Bought myself a nice cheap 08 CRF250, was gonna keep it as is but that'd just be boring wouldnt it! haha

then i picked up a blown up 1996 CR 250 donor bike, figured im only gonna strip it right down & replace the lot anyway so why buy a runner!

rang a few of my suppliers to see what size piston etc i can go up to...

Wossner do a 69.50mm piston, that paired with the 72mm stroke = 273.14cc. Pretty much 280.

Gonna throw a Wiseco crank kit in to handle the overbore too!

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a Big bore barrel though?

The port timing, compression ratio, powervalve cutting and plating would all be correct from the off.

If it's anything like Yamaha, be careful going over sized as they have a balance shaft which wont match the weight of the new bigger piston.

Will be a wicked little project though! Will be watching this one.

Don't see many (if any) MX 2t's with balancer shafts.

Yeah not seen a 2stroke mx bike with a balancer shaft buddy. I know the DTRs run em but not the YZs.

Cant find a decent big bore kit out there so just gonna make my own with a Wiseco 69.50 piston from an ATC/TRX 250.

Ill keep you posted....

Well my conversion kit finally arrived! Now the fun begins!

Off comes the old mounts & the 'Y' piece

Drop the engine in & mark up where the new Y section needs to go.

Jack the frame open & slot the new Y section in

Shape the new bottom mounts

Frame all cleaned up ready for welding tomorrow!
