Re: Yx160 - Demon X -CRF70

When stripping the bike down I noticed that there was a bracket missing from the rear subframe where a bolt is meant to be to fix the plastics. Rather than just buying a new subframe, I used to do quite a bit of TIG welding so I decided I'd call on a mate and have a go on his new TIG plant.

All painted and refitted

Re: Yx160 - Demon X -CRF70

As you can see the majority of the bike is built back up now. As it was at the stage and wheels back on I decided I would get it running again. Spent a fair new hours trying to start it but it was having none on it. Left me stumped as it ran before I took it all apart.
So I decided I would put the old parts like the carb, coil etc back on and in theory would be fine again...............if only.
After scratching my head for an hour or two I decided I would check the timing re-do the valve clearances just to be on the safe side. Even after this it still refused to run. It would start on the odd occasion but die instantly. So I put the new parts back on and left it for a day.
I had ordered a cheap Chinese race CDI as it was only pennies but I didn't want to put it on before I had it running properly so to know that if there was any issues I would know it wasn't that, but as it wouldn't start anyway I decided I would try it.................2nd kick it starts.
All that swapping of parts and all along it was dodgy CDI, so I ordered a new stock CDI and fitted that when it arrived.

I've said from the beginning I won't ride it until I've finished rebuilding it properly but the temptation to quickly check the old panels on and head up Tormarton is nearing every time I go out to the garage especially seeing what they've done up there recently. Looks epic!!
