Just a quick correction to what James said. If you have a carb with a fuel mixture screw (screw is not on the air intake side) turning it to the left (anti clock wise) will actually make it richer allowing more fuel into the mix. What I would do is start the engine and give it 2 mins. Turn the screw all the way in till it's snug but not too tight then unscrew it 2 full turns and let the bike tick over for a minute and do your adjustments from that point. You want a smooth rythmic sound not jumps in tempo high or low. You may have your idle screw way off as well which you can tune alongside the fuel mixture
