Proving VAT has been paid?

I am looking into getting my 02 kx 125 road reg, I've contacted Kawasaki and they will give me proof of age for £54 but my next problem is proving the VAT has been paid, Kawasaki can't help because it's more than 6 years old, HMRC are the same.

Is my only option to pay the VAT myself?

Haven't paid the £54 yet Wanted to double check everything is ok before going ahead, so it's basically impossible to make a bike over 6 years old road legal unless the person you buy it from provide proof VAT was paid?

I thought it was the VAT when it was imported though, chances are any bike you buy that isn't new won't have proof the IMPORT VAT was paid surely?

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

The real question is

Why would you want too

Personally I would never take a 125 2stroke mx bike on the road. It would last 20mins. It's not designed for road use.

Save your time and money.

Want a 2 stroke road bike, buy an ktm exc or DT125

All the hassle for an old bike.

Why would it last 20 minutes? It will mainly be used to get to/from riding places, 30 minutes there/back maximum.

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

the 2 stroke motocross bikes are a lot more highly strung than say a ktm exc, meaning it will take a lot of maintenance for road riding.

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

2 strokes were designed to be driven through the entire rev range hard and constantantly fluctuating, when you ride on the road, you tend to get up to top gear and then cruise untill your at your riding place, that 'cruising' will start causing heat stress prematurely because your not riding through the range. I believe thats why there are specialist road 2 strokes, because they have things like cermaic sleeves and higher spec internals, to prevent this. You put it on the road and im willing to bet the price of your first piston change that it will be within 24 hours of road riding. not trying to put a dampner on it but rather saving you a lot of time sweat tears and blood! if it were me id sell it and get a road spec or a 4 stroke.
