Sprocket combinations.
I'm currently running a 17T on the front sprocket, I use the bike for supermoto and at red lodge the other day as I'm only hitting the top of third I've got a 14t front sprocket, how much will that affect the gearing as it's a bit of a jump. I don't wanna be bouncing valves before getting to the end of the straights in fourth.
Cheers
Ryan.

Re: Sprocket combinations.
1 tooth on the front is 3 teeth on the back, i'd go for a 15t on the front

Re: Sprocket combinations.
So 15T on the front, will I need to change the rear sprocket I'm currently running 38T on the back. What is the ideal T for the rear if running a 15T on the front?

Taking 1 tooth off the front sprocket is the same as taking 3 teeth off the rear sprocket. (It's not exact but close enough.)

Correct. Not been to redlodge for ages but going for the last round of nmrrc a week tomorrow and I'll be starting off 16 / 39 and see how that goes.

I ran a 17/38 round there last week and didn't need 4th gear! That's why I'm dropping 2t on the front I just do t know how drastic it will affect things.

Re: Sprocket combinations.
I run 16/39, its a good starting point, and for lazy gits like me who cant be bothered to change it (or more to the point dont have a whole bunch of sprockets) it will get you round most tracks without issues.
It depends a lot on how quick you are riding, if your getting on the throttle earlier coming onto the straight you will top out earlier.

Going less on the front is like adding on the rear. (approx 1 on front = 3 on rear)

Re: Sprocket combinations.
Hi Guys,
could you tell me the best combo of sprockets for a road legal pit bike for a 125cc. I'll be running on 14" rear wheel and 17" front wheel if that helps, I've only had road bikes previously so wanting you advice from your experience.
Cheers ALAN
