Re: what is this clicking noise?
No mate just pull the spring and the plate off the splines slightly then turn the shaft so its tensioned then slide the plate & spring back down.

Re: what is this clicking noise?
Im not disagreeing with anyone here but if you want to double check just to make sure its the kickstart mech, disable it, then take the piston off the rod and spin it by hand

Re: what is this clicking noise?
Cheers for your help guys! It still made a clicking sound when turned at the crankshaft but not at the drive shaft and i thought, you know what? Its been in bits for over a year and its just a cheap engine, i might as well put it together. So al together last night and it kind if ran bt didnt idle. Had to keep throttle going so going to look at the carb soon. Didnt seem to explode or make a clicking noise, maybe just because it was loud? But anyway cheers for your help.... :-)

When your a teenager and when your poor, you dont have many option to choose from. I, like many people, have a condition of a lazy disorder and it is pretty much in-curable apart from some extreme medical measures

Re: what is this clicking noise?
Age is nothing but a number. I was doing full engine rebuilds on YZ250s at 15.

With age comes experience. It seems you have a higher natural talent from the get go
