or you could take the rear axel bolt to a GOOD DIY shop/ motor factors and ask them for a longer bolt, then simply thread the wheels on as if they were washers in the whole rear axle assembly.
The only problem I can see with rubber's way of doing it is that you loose alot of movement in the rear wheel for tightening your chain, and also it wouldn't work on the front, I think my idea would - but I have never tried it..so I don't know for sure.
