Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
went and bought a multimeter today, just went out into the garage to see if I could test any of the bits. HAH, no chance. to say the whole thing baffles me is an understatement. have read the multi meter's manual and still have no clue A) what setting i should set it to and B) where i should be sticking the red and black leads onto the bike.
I can honestly see myself setting fire to the bike at this point, since I bought it in december I have probably had about 15 minutes riding on it but have spent god knows how many days trying to fix it. Its not really much fun.

Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
lol he doesn't have to! it would be super super nice of him if he did though or anyone else for that matter.
well i managed to get a reading out of it somehow. Plugged the red lead of the multimeter into the white lead coming from the IRK pickup, then plugged the black lead of the multimeter into the green earth lead that would normally go into the ignition coil. Kicked the bike over and it gave a reading of between 6-9volts. had it on the AC setting i think................................ hard to tell. lol.
Then tried swapping the red multimeter lead onto the black lead that comes from the IRK and kicked it over again, got no more than 1volt this time.......

Yeah and its a Demon not a Stomp and I'm helping you ...not to worry
You need to first check the main coil for a voltage connect meter accross the earth and output wire from main coil.
Kick it with plug out and any movement in the multimeter needle shows at least its outputing someting its idealy around 6 volts, but hard to get a deffinate reading on kicking only.
Then do the same for the ignition pick up coil.

Haha, hey just think of it as Karma, I told someone to buy a stomp from you instead of a pit bike from ebay last week and half an hour later they placed the order with you
Plus i'll be buying myself a pit bike after I graduate from uni in June (providing I get this piece of **** to work without having to shell out much more money on it) who know's, maybe i'll invest in a stomp
righto, going to go and try and do what you said now, thanks again mate, your help is apreciated

Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
okidoke, so if i disconnected the white lead from the CDI and connected it to the red lead of the multimeter instead, then had the black multimeter lead touching an earth point, as in the diagram below (sorry for using your picture btw ade ), I only get up to 1v on kickover, measured in AC.
Now if i connect it as below, so instead of the white whire its connected to the black one which goes into the IRK, i get 6v and above - sometimes even up to 9v....
I take it this means the main coil is okay but the pickup is screwed or something?

Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
Well done mate, looks like your Irk is ok.
The ignition timing pick up coil is only going to produce a small voltage cos its so much smaller.
As long as they outputting something you know chances are its ok.
Check the output of last 2 wires going into the sparking coil.

Re: Help needed please - wiring CDI & wiring on stomp 110FX and demon DYX140
thats good news, thanks.
did what you said, tested as in the diagram below, got about 4v on kickover........
any ideas?
edit; also tested the stomp 110fx at the same point and got 17v, how come?
