Hi all,
I live near Bruges (Belgium) but found my way to this forum.
Very recently I have bought myself a 2006 Thumpstar Road Ripper 125cc. Let me start with a bit of classic history for the youngsters here
As some of you may know, Thumpstar has produced a road legal version for 1 year, in a 50cc and 125cc version, beside their gamma of offroad ('Pro Elite')
In my opinion, the road legal version was ok when it comes to functionality, but too boring appearances and not made 'heavy duty' like the offroad version.
Street legal 'Road Ripper':
Off road version 'Pro Elite'
As you can see: The offroad version has a better frame, fork ... and an engine/carburator combination that made more performance.
I have know both models for more then 10 years, but I must say you don't see them a lot 'in the wild' here in Belgium. In 10 years, I have not spotted 5 of them. I have had a 'real bike' (900+ cc) but I always liked the idea of a mini road legal pitbike. Fun is not in the amount of CC, but in the things you do with your bike. The last 4 years I did not own any bike, but very often I looked on the market sites for a light MX / pitbike available. Some weeks ago, I was very surprised to see a Thumpstar Road Ripper 125 pop up. When I looked at the pics, I had to smile: It was the very rare street legal version with the CNC heat treated alloy frame. And above, someone had dumped the boring parts to add the offroad parts and looks. On top of that, a LeoVince exhaust which is pure porn for the ears
The price was more then reasonable so I could not resist.
License plate is coming, and later this week I will collect some little stuff to make it complete (Fork protectors, little indicators, horn, hand guards ... )
Here are some pics:
The CNC TUV certified full billet T6 heat treated alloy frame.
This frame is so collectable, it is still mentioned on the
Thumpstar site.
Can anyone explain me the word 'billet'?
I am happy to have found this forum, as good (Thumpstar) sites/spare parts are hard to find nowadays ...
If you ever plan a pitbike trip in Bruges, let me know
Regards,
