Cool Bleeding brakes/Broken brake

So I had a master cylinder that had just gone so I ordered a new one and put it in place and connected the brake line and pressed it to see if it was pushing the brake pads on the calliper but I couldn't see any movement, so i removed the brake line from the calliper and stupidly I poured all the brake fluid out.
So basically I don't have a clue what to do? How do i fill it again? Like just basically what is recommended cause I have no clue where to start and want to learn.
Thanks

Re: Bleeding brakes/Broken brake

put the caliper on the bike properly, and then take the cap off the master cylinder.

loosing the bleed nipple on the caliper

pour brake fluid into the master cylinder while pumping the brake pedal slowy.

when it is just pure fluid coming out with no bubbles.

tighten nipple up fill to the top and put cap on.

Okay thanks that makes sense, I was just watching a video and he used a pump? But im assuming pumping the brake does the same thing?
So essentialy I have to take nipple off calliper, pour brake fluid into the master cylinder while pumping it, until i get full fluid with no air coming out of the bleed nipple? Just to double check

Re: Bleeding brakes/Broken brake

don't take the nipple completely off just loosen it till liquid comes out.

The pump you seen was a back bleeding kit, you can use a syringe and some tubeing. its basically putting the fluid into the nipple to avoid air getting in the system.

but above is the easiest traditional method.

When pouring fluid into the master cylinder do it as smoothly and slowly to avoid bubbles getting down into the system.

good luck.

I guess the pressing of the brake will just give the same pressure as the bleeding kit would, makes sense.
Okay thanks again, will try over the next few days and update you.
Will need to find some brake fluid first, are they DOT3 usually?

Been super busy but went to try it today, it didnt really work out?
Heres a video of what I was trying and i did that a few times going through the brake fluid in the master cylinder but at the end the calliper was barely moving?

Re: Bleeding brakes/Broken brake

You're doing it wrong... all your doing is removing air from the system and then sucking air back in again
watch this video this is how you do it, you need some clear flexi pipe like what you see in fish tanks. You attach that to the bleed nipple, pump the back brake half way down open the bleed nipple to let some fluid/air out of the system then close the bleed nipple and let go of the brake peddle, that way your stopping air being sucked back into the system, just dont let go of the brake pedal before closing the nipple or your back to square one! Also keep the master cylinder topped up with brake fluid dont let it run out of fluid otherwise you will just let a load of air back in again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGEkmWX1NM0

i learnt using that video and sorted my brakes out.
Also the piston doesnt actually move that much only a little to make the pads contact the disc.
you will need some brake cleaner for the disc too to remove all that brake fluid thats gone all over it and make sure your pads dont contact the brake fluid, although, looking at that they will probably be soaked in it. Brake fluid and pads don't mix im definitely no expert but i reckon your pads will be contaminated and you may need some new ones.

Re: Bleeding brakes/Broken brake

you also need to keep put fluid into the master cylinder or its just sucking in air mate. good effort buddy keep it up!
