Charity run - lands end - John O groats

Me and a couple of mates decided we would do this on quads a year or so ago, but that was when I have some quads to do it on, those went with the business.

SO..

Thought we would try it on pitbikes. Start in Landsend, up through Wales - which has some great roads, up through central England through the pennines - again some great roads and then up through scotalnd - which incidenetly also has some top roads.

And aim to get some greenlaning/track days in on the way.

Would work out at approx 1000 miles. When we were looking at it we found that there were loads of companies who would dontae to it - eg spare tyres, oil, accomodation - provided we plastered everything in their logos. As I dont have a road pit - Im happy to volunteer to drive the 4x4 "maintenance vehicle" - we picked up a jeep cherokee and ripped everything out the back which is perfect for the job - and also means I can follow the bikes on any green lanes.

So far there are just the 3 of us - just wondered if there was anyone else interested - obviously you would need a road legal pit bike, and money for petrol ( we are budgeting approx 500 quid for the whole trip inc petrol, food, track days etc - based on being able to blag a few parts/accomodation). I would guess it would take 4 days at approx 7 hours a day of riding. - The more riders, the more chance of some decent sponsors and rasing some decent sums.

Any interest?

PS. - All money raised goes to charity.

Jim

EDITED TO ADD:

The plan is to start in lands end:

DAY1

Then take the A39 Coast road through cornwall:

Then onto the: A396 following the river exe.

Then along the B3223

Up through Cheddar Gorge:

Then up through Burrington Coombe

And finally cross the Severn Bridge into wales:

END OF DAY 1.

Day 2:

Up through the Fforest Fawr

Through Llyn Brianne

Through the Elan Valley

And IMO the best road of the trip: The pass of Llanberis

END OF DAY 2.

DAY 3:

Up Through Wynrose Pass

Then up the A686 into scoootland.

Then the a708 through scotland

End of day 3
DAY4:

Then take the a827

Cross the Forth Bridge:

Up the A82

Up the A9

Arrive at John O groats:

DONE!

Each day allows for aprox 6-7 hours driving, which leaves loads of time for stops, greenlanes, etc etc.

The route itself isnt final but its more or less where we were planning on going last year. In the summer, we will have 14 or so hours of light/day so 7 hours of driving/riding isnt that long, eg ride from 9 till 12 then from 2-6 or whatever.

Thanks in advance

That will be the plan, just guaging if theres any interest from anyone else - as I say 10 pit bikes is more attractive to sponsors than 2.

But in all honesty, working on us doing all maintenance ourselves and the fact you can fit a spare couple of bikes in the cherokee it works out pretty low cost, approx 100 quid per head petrol, either camp or blag a room at a B+B each night and a bit of cash for tracks etc.

Unfortunately I dont at the moment, Im due to start a new job in the next couple of weeks. But as I said its been in the planning since last summer on the quads and we just decided pit bikes would be easier this year - cheaper to ride/maintain and easier to fit in the jeep if they break.

When do you intend on doing it. I dont fancy doing it during any cold months.

Mid summer would be great!

I'd have to get a spare set of wheels for the Pit bike. Possibly a 12 / 14 setup with semi knobbly tyres for the off road part of the trip. But id be more than up for it.
Ben
The plan was to stick atleast 1 complete spare bike in the back of the jeep, along with plenty of wheels, etc. Not sure on timings yet. But as you say - would be better when its warmer.

If you need some inspiration: This thread popped up by co-incidence
