Proving VAT has been paid?

I am looking into getting my 02 kx 125 road reg, I've contacted Kawasaki and they will give me proof of age for £54 but my next problem is proving the VAT has been paid, Kawasaki can't help because it's more than 6 years old, HMRC are the same.

Is my only option to pay the VAT myself?

Haven't paid the £54 yet Wanted to double check everything is ok before going ahead, so it's basically impossible to make a bike over 6 years old road legal unless the person you buy it from provide proof VAT was paid?

I thought it was the VAT when it was imported though, chances are any bike you buy that isn't new won't have proof the IMPORT VAT was paid surely?

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

Higher spec internals on a road going bike? The Dt is an under powered under tuned two stroke

The rs125 is a highly strung 2 stroke

Mine did 11k from new with no piston change

If you want an mx on the road

Up the gearing for cruising. Road tyres, warm it up before use

The husqvarna SMS 125 2 stroke I had was amazingly powerful and sounded mad with the fmf fatty but it was fantastic on the road

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

i used to own an 86 rm125 that was road legal. i used to ride it for miles to get to green lanes, and then miles back. plus pottering around town etc. at the time i never even knew anything about mx maintenance and never even thouhgt about hours run before a rebuild. that bike ran perfectly all the way up to the day it got stolen
actually i'm told it was still up and running after it was stolen as people i know have seen it being abused round a coucil estate
never did see that bike again

Re: Proving VAT has been paid?

yeah, a lot if it was my own fault being younger and not to savvy on security, i had it chained to the wall outside my dads house and blocked it in with my road bike. one day my dad comes in from the drive and asks where the bike is? i go out and find the road bike wheeled out in the road and the locks cut

on topic though, i'm not saying it's a good idea to run an mx bike on the road without serious thoughts to it's maintenance, i just managed to be lucky with how mine ran
