Re: how to test electrics

turn the multimeter to A/C 20 or a low number.

put the black terminal on the green from the stator
put the red terminal on the blue/white from the stator

with the plug out kick it over.

you should get a low reading of around 3ish - this is the pickup. if you get nothing then thats faulty

put the black on the green again
put the red on the red/black from the stator

with the plug out kick it over

you should get a fairly decent reading of around 13ish - this is the coils in the middle. if you get nothing then its faulty.

put the black on the green from the CDI (the coil connector)
put the red on the black/yellow from the CDI (the other coil connector)

kick it over again

you should get a nice big reading of around 13 again, if not then the CDI is toast.

if all thats fine then snip the HT lead back at both ends & screw it back in. if its still the same then you need a coil.

Check each connector too. Clean off any rust and spray with wd40. Check the earth strap has a good clean connection too.

Re: how to test electrics

A quick way to test the coil is to do a resistance check

Re: how to test electrics

i only have an old annolog tester and the 1st one has no more than 1v and the 2nd i can get to over 10v just by kicking over and over so i would say its the little black box bit the pickup is faulty so change the 1 part or the whole plate?

Re: how to test electrics

Go and get yourself a digital multimeter for a tenner
Save you a lot of hassle
