Masai 50cc Gears Problem

I have bought a Masai but to be honest how do you work the gears!?

People say its like 2 up 1 down what does this mean!?

1 down 3 up probs it means the gears are like this

1-n-2-3-4

I mean why is 1st gear before nutrul

dunno realy probably so you can just kick it down without having to worring about putting it into neutral altho some bikes are n-1-2-3-4

Bike makers in the 1970's got together and decided it was the safest configuration of gears. When you need to slow down in a hurry it's better to hit first rather than neutral, So it's been standard ever since, but as 123nathanOg said some pits are n1234 up or even n1234 down.

we all learnt some when but a basic understanding of how many gears your bike has may help

my kx 250 is 1-n-2-3-4-5-6 and one pit is 1-n-2-3-4 and the other is n-1-2-3-4 down

It has 4 gears I can do gears but I just dont usderstand 1 up 2 down bit.
