Experienced Pitbike Buyers, Help & Information Highly Appreciated.
Hey guys,
Im new to this pit bike forums, just hoping i can gain some insight on the bike and wheres best to buy etc.
Im 18 & 4ft'11 and despite having a huge passion for bikes, im too short and lightweight to ride a normal 125 so ive now got my heart set on a Road Legal 125cc Pitbike. Ive heard they're quite nippy and despite a lot of them breaking you can pick up all the parts cheap so its a win win situation.
Anyway! Just wondering if anyone can tell me the best makes? (shineray, masai etc..) whats likley to fault first, personal experiences and opinions and so forth. Your knowledge would be muchly appreciated!

i'd go for a masia, check the rear wheel as they tend to eat bearings.
shineray, only if its been upgraded with decent parts.

Masai is the best build. But you cant get them brand new no more.
Only news ones sold are the Shinerays...
Locktight all bolts asap. Rear brakes usualy sieze up, Front brakes are poor. Spokes come loose as fast as you tighten them, would be good to invest in a set of Ally one piece wheels.
Better rear shock as the original is springy
Drain the ****ty oil out the forks and Whack some 10w in the front forks to stiffen them up a tad
Get a decent exhaust instead of the pea shooter... To be honest, If you got the money get a better engine as i've heard the standered shineray engines are poor and lack power.
Better tyres, Originals are ditch finders.
Qaulity wheel bearings, Original bearings just sieze up.

Yeah i noticed that, how come they stopped selling them brand new?
Can you still get hold of road legal pitbikes new? Or is it a case of searching for a half decent old one & fixing it up yourself?
Been searching Gumtree, Ebay & Yakaz but hardly any of them are nearby or road legal. Doing my nut in!!
I know many people have said its more trouble than its worth etc, but in your opinion is it worth buying a off road pit bike, then gearing it up to be road legal and getting the MSVA?

To be honest, It would be tough to get one through an MSVA test.
The Importer for the masai's just stopped really.
You can get road legal pits new but they are only avaliable in the shineray!
Best to get a cheap one and sort it yourself. That way you know when and what has been done and when. Thats what i've done.

Yeahh i thought as much, didnt wanna buy a crappy off road bike for £200 and spend about £300 doing it up, would just be waste. So where abouts can you get hold of a new shineray then & how much are we talking?
Also is there anyway to stop the exhaust burning your leg! I know theres a panel covering it but because its only plastic this soon melts and when i had a ride on my friends bike i burnt my leg.. other than replacing it ever so often, anyway to avoid it? (no stupid answers, i get the point of move your leg away from the exhaust blahblah but its not that simple when your legs onit)
