Issues Starting From Cold

I purchased a bike for my son for Christmas and decided to buy a bike for myself yesterday.

For some reason the bike I got(2nd hand) seems to be a right pig at first starting from cold, I can keep kicking it over and it will fire but not start and eventually it will start but if I touch the throttle it cuts out.

After letting it just idle to warm up it's fine, and if I turn it off it will start back up first kick... So it just seems to be the first initial starting of the bike.

Would I be right in thinking it may be running too rich? I haven't done anything to the bike yet or even checked the plug although I have been told it is a new plug as the PO tried this to see if that was the issue.

Any help and/or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks.
