the bike is with the repair man yet again hes due to be fixing it on friday. i dont know a great deal about bikes but iam sure the crank keyway has to be straight. the guy thinks he just gunna put a new key in and bolt the flywheel back up. i think its just going to come of again like last time after 15mins or is gunna be out of aliment. so i belive its time for the 5th strip down and put a new crank in ?. am i right or is the guy just trying to save time and money yet again ? thanks again si

Re: jumps under power 3rd gear

The crank does look a bit worn... I cant say that it would need replacing or not though, just ride it hard when you get it back and it it goes again then maybe it will need a crank.

The seal on the driveshaft seems abit crooked? not seating right so sort that out before you ride.

Cool Re: jumps under power 3rd gear

yeah it was crocked mate. that was last time i got engine back. he came and sorted it out next day glad to say it worked lol. to me that is what tells me he rushed the engine yet again as 4 bolts was missing aswell. why do u think the flywheel came undone after 15mins. it only gave me about 30secs warning loudish knocking noise so started to slow and turn back home then bang lol. took cover of and noticed the flywheel had came of... maybe he dident tourge it enough ?. i put the blame to him because when the gearbox was bad i done over 100 odd miles by gps and never had a problem with it. thanks mountian u have always replyed to my posts with great imformation. but the man fills me with bull i dont want the engine to go bang again as this is fith time hes worked on it ........ hes bringing it back tomorow. so would he get away with just a new key and bolting her up hard or should i tell him he needs to replace crank as i dont want this mishap to happen again?. i belive he thinks its his probem as he hasent charged me for what ever work hes going to be doing just dont want him to take the easy option lol

Re: jumps under power 3rd gear

Just let him do the easy option which he will probably do..

New key thing bolt the flywheel tight etc...

Tell him if it gives out again in within 6 months you want it sorting.

6 months is reasonable, considering you may be ill / not riding it all the time.

Ideally 12 months but that's a bit much I think.

Aslong as it works just don't worry about it. its hard to tell by photos if the cranks has worn bad but theres only 2 options...

Easy new key bolt it up
Hard new crank

If its that bad then it will happen again so hes only goingto have to fix it in the end..

Re: jumps under power 3rd gear

id be surprised if anybody would offer any sort if warranty on these engines, the shops only offer a month on new bikes.

Re: jumps under power 3rd gear

Be a wise guy and tell the mechanic, that he needs to wipe the contact points of the magnet and crank with some brake disc cleaner, so no oil is left in between when asembling, also using a locktite fluid on the nut helps, appropriate torque is also needed to do up the nut.

This spot is basically the only spot that needs to be clean when assembly is done...
