Re: My new to me Bike

Lol.
After a night on research and headscratching i'm a bit more clued up about these old engine magnetos. I took the engine side cover off and managed to adjust plus clean the ignition breaker points. I then set the magneto/flywheel gap.
Now it sparks a big bright blue spark even when hardly turning the pedals

Not sure wether to restore, modify or leave as it is just nut road worthy.
Do like what these guys are doing

Gonna clean the carb before attempting to start it. Tried to drain the engine and a freyish liquid poured out. Seemed like old old engine oil. Hopefully get it started tomorrow.

The points should have a flat surface, any points or bumps then the condenser might be gone.

Set the gap to about the thickness of a fag packet, i'll get it going.

Re: My new to me Bike

The point gaps are good and adjusted. Got a bright blue spark on the spark plug now. Only issue is the petrol tank has rust inside so couldnt try and start it. Now making a makeshift fuel tank out of a small bottle with a hole for the pipe to the carb. Just to see if the engine turns over.
On a plus note, just found out this model is worth more than my Honda cub

Make sure there is a another hole at the top so that the bottle doesn't implode/ suck inwards.

Unless you're gunna throw it away

Talking Re: My new to me Bike

After carefull measurements realised there is a lot of work required to fit a newer chineese pitbike engine so had no choice but to get the originall one going.
Re-adjusted the ignition breaker points, flywheel/magneto air gap, stripped back some of the ignition wire going to the spark plug cap, tied the end of that directly onto the spark plug as the spark plug cap was rusted. Then with a new spark plug, a brighter blue spark appeared.
Strapped on a lawnmower fuel tank, after cleaning the carb last night, filled up with unleaded, didnt have 2 stroke oil so added a little bit of 4 stroke oil.
Took a full rotation on the pedals to bring the engine to life. Sounded rough at 1st but after a minute of running sounded like a good 2 stroke bike. No drive chain though so couldnt have a cheeky test drive.
Tried a normal bicycle chain but too thin to fit over the sprockets so need a chain, pitbike chain should do.
Anyway its alive
