Re: Help taking cr85 apart

When I teach peeps to do a job I get them to individually zip bag and write on the bag "clutch ", "clutch cover" or "crank cases"

Also if there is a few or different sized bolts,
Get some card board and with a marker pen draw the part on then use a screw driver to punch bolt holes into it,
Then just remove the bolt from the bike and put it in the cardboard jig

But remember dude have fun, if you get stuck or pi$$ed off go have a break and get out the garage/shed and clear you head,

Re: Help taking cr85 apart

Would powder be a better option if there was slight rust ?

x2 on that nothing worse than getting stressed with something, take 10, have a brew and then go back, a brew fixes everything

except the debate on whether it's bag in, or bag out? Milk first or after?

Re: Help taking cr85 apart

so you don't buy into the notion of, milk in first, thus making an emulsion, and the molecular reaction, gives a tastier brew? Guy Martin swears by this method, and he's not bonkers is he, no way! ....

Re: Help taking cr85 apart

Stripping a MX bike is a piece of piss really. There's not much on them.

Plastics, tank, seat off.

Leave the rear wheel/shock/linkage attached to the swinger, just remove the top shock bolt, swinger pivot and linkage bolt.

Leave the front end in one piece, just undo the top clamp, stem nut and slide the whole lot out.

Rads, pipe, electrics off, then the engines out.

If your getting the frame powder coated, you might need to re-tap the threads in the frame or put old bolts in the threads.

While everything is apart, it's a great opportunity to grease/replace the linkage/shock/headset and wheel bearings.
