KX 85 kickstart locked up ???

Been to Gingers today with my son on his KX 85.

His bike was running great and he was all over the various tracks on it having a laugh with his 2 mates.

I'm sitting by my van getting more and more covered in dust when my son appears pushing his bike.

He had stopped over by his mates Dads van to have a chat but when he came to start his bike the kickstart won't budge.

I know **** all about bikes to be honest ( but I am trying to learn ) , so I wonder if anybody has any ideas as to what the problem might be.

No doubt it is going to cost me more money.

Uh Oh,

I had the same problem with my Cr85, the kickstart jammed solid, I doubt its your piston/rings as the kickstart would still move. For me it was Crank Rod bearings were blown. Had to fork out around £400 for a full engine rebuild.

Thanks for the replies so far gents...............I use the term thanks loosely.

I have got access to a complete set of exploded diagrams for each of the engine parts ( courtesy of Cornwall Kawasaki ).

If it is just a case of taking apart , removing damaged/smashed parts and re-assembling I might give it a go.

Is this something a complete ( but not an idiot ) novice could do myself or are there special tools needed ?

hello mate,if your conrod/big end has gone then you will not be able to rebuild your crank by yourself.this is a specialist job.if your crank has gone then this engine rebuild is going to be expensive.there are a couple of specialist tools required like a clutch basket holder so you can release the nut without the clutch spinning.if its your first ever engine rebuild then you will definately struggle but if you can get a manual to guide you through you should be ok.
