Project thread: PIT BIKE CAD FRAME DESIGN!

Started on this earlier. gonna be doing bit at a time til i have a complete frame. then might make it! Check back for updates!

13th July, 16.26:

Just done a little bit on the main frame, gotta raise the headstock though. Next on the list is: Engine mounts, tank mounts, oil cooler mounts etc, then gonna start on the back :

Sorted the headstock:

Just done a few bits...

Rear section done:



Added subframe and rear engine mounts (ignore the dodgy bit where its joined i hadnt lined it up at the time):

Started on the swinger, bit small atm though:



15th July, 19.43:

Did this last night, but forgot to update it. This is finished now as i cannot be bothered to take this any further so i rendered it etc:

Is this all to the correct dimentions? Also how do you plan to make it?

not yet. (dont have them in turkey ) this is just a mockup. Not sure if i will make it yet. might be my college project next year

CNC? It would cost you a fortune, I was going to make a swinger up on solid works, but theres no point when you see the costs of material!

The tricky part of this is not to do the cad, it's to get all the needed measurements accurately.
I guess you are learning CAD at school? Do you also learn about mechanics of materials? The different kinds of tension and how to reduce/calculate/etc them?
This would give you a feeling to design the frame so its got "flesh" were it needs to be and reduce weight in low tension areas...
Of course calculating all that and designing a really good frame is another story...

But have fun! However milling such a frame from solid billet aluminium gonna be really expensive unless you got good connections.

Even with 'good connections' its blooody expencive, I looked into it last year and costs were unreal!

Cheers. Just finished my 2year lvl2engineering diploma at school and for the next two years im doing engineering in motorsport lvl 3.
