Exclamation HELP!!! Front brake issue NOW!!!!

Hi guys,

I have managed to get the front super-wide 2.75 mag spaced correctly but now have an issue with my brake. If i loosen the caliper bolts the brembo works perfect how it should but once I tighten the two caliper bolts the brake goes spongy and doesn't work correctly. Might be worth mentioning that I had to grind back the fork lugs a little that hold the caliper in place. Going crazy with this now lol.

No mate, as soon as you slightly loosen the caliper bolts the brake works perfect and no spongy feeling, it seems like its an alignment issue cause once you tighten the two bolts the wheel doesn't freely move, it becomes stiff and the brake is crap

Re: HELP!!! Front brake issue NOW!!!!

it'll be the pads pulling the disc over, so it isn't aligned quite right

Yeah thats what it is mate, but all day I've tried washers in different places and not been able to align it for some reason.

Re: HELP!!! Front brake issue NOW!!!!

how dod you take off the brake lugs? was this done with a grinder? it might not be perendictlar to the axle so when its loose its ok but when tightened it forces the caliper over on an angle? In the mountain bikeing world this is done with a 'facing tool' (Google - Hope Disc Brake Facing tool) which attaches to the axle and ensures the brake mounting lugs are parallel.

Re: HELP!!! Front brake issue NOW!!!!

I was thinking about this over lunch (I thought I might write it here & open it up to the wider group).
This might sound a bit Heath Robinson (some of you older riders probably know what I mean) but if it was me I would stick sandpaper directly onto a disc with carpet tape (super sticky double sided tape) rough side out and use the wheel to 'face' the surface of the mounting. problem is I don't know (until I get home & look) if the fork leg will get in the way (or if the lugs are in bound of the fork leg), you may need to space it out from the disc, either way the wheel offers the best way of getting those lugs right (cheaply).
hope that helps
