What pit bike to get?

hi all, im looking to get myself a pit bike. problem is i am not sure what to get . i would prefer to buy a new one but torn between a stomp 140 and wpb race 140. i use to have mx bikes about 15yrs ago and haven't rode since, im going down the pit bike route due to transport and storage and also so i can go out with my 9yr old daughter when she is on her quad but also when she is just having a rest i can have a blast about the local field, i see some state max weight limit 15 stone i am 14 stone so would a 140 be ok? or do i need to go bigger.
so much has changed in the off road scene since i was last on it so a total beginner with this. my hobby at the moment is 1/5 petrol rc's and bored of that now time to get some adrenaline pumping again

Re: What pit bike to get?

Hi Mate, having had a 26 yr break i have come bike to bikes too,
I am over 15 st but went to a couple of race meetings to get info before i bought anything.
Main things to look at are the rear shock, fork and wheels.
140 or 160 engine wouldn't make a lot of difference unless your going to race. ( i have a 140 Stomp )
I made sure it had a DNM shock , the forks are SP which are Marzocchi copies.
I havent sorted the wheels yet.I am keeping to 12" / 14" as i intent to race.
One thing i did notice was that most of the race spec bikes had a wider frame with swinging arm inside the the cradle whereas a lot of the cheaper pits had narrower frames with external swing arm. not sure if this makes a lot of difference but i found the Stomp 140R has this sort of frame and the high lift cam fitted.
It comes down to how much you want to spend. I paid £600 for mine, It was new Dec 2016 and i bought it in July 2017. They were £1100 new .
You can get new race spec bikes like the Workz Industries 160 complete for £2200 and you wouldnt need to replace anything on that

Re: What pit bike to get?

try for something like the stomp z3 if your budget is around £1000, they really do stand up to the abuse. one won the stock 140 class at mbc against bikes 3 times the cost

Question Re: What pit bike to get?

I was wondering which pit bike to get. Was wondering if there will be much difference between the 125 to 170 race WPB's? I don't intend to compete right now. But these bikes defo look more hard wearing than the M2R RF series... correct me if I'm wrong please??

Re: What pit bike to get?

To a certain degree all the bikes are pretty similar it depends and what you want to do how much you want to spend . You can spend up to £1,000 and get a bike that will give you a lot of fun but isn't likely to withstand the abuse with that comes with racing Plus it would have to have 12/ 14 inch wheels to be race legal so the 14:17 would only be ok for practice . I have a second hand Stomp Z2 140R which could be raced in the 140 class and would be up to the task because it has a DNM hornet shock and SP forks which although maybe not top of the range they are certainly up to the job and I am about 15 and a half stone so can assure you they have had a good test . For the money I would certainly recommend a Stomp and the Moto X1 160 look like decent purchases

Cheers Rick... Had s look at the Z3 140r. Couldn't see anywhere selling the z2 140r new any more. Looks like a strong bike. Not many vids or reviews on the Moto X1. Are they rare?

Re: What pit bike to get?

Pit bikes are mass produced with only really a few differences. If you look at the frame on a z2 you will notice other brands have same frame. The moto x has same frame design as the z3 . Some frames have the swing arm outside the frame and some are inside. I would go for the wider frame as they seem stronger. The engines are roughly all the same really to ( yx140, yx 160 ) the main differences are shocks and forks.

Re: What pit bike to get?

I had noticed that the Moto X 160 was identical to MR2 RF160. Just with Different graphics. A lot of sellers rippping off each other or just buying same frame and engines from China and passing them off as their own.
